parklets Lx

The sparqs initiative’s mission is to create small spaces for public enjoyment in streets with a shortage of space for people. To do this, one or more car parking spaces are converted to provide green outdoor spaces, creating an alternative for local residents and workers to enjoy their street, resting, socialising or playing.

The Parklets Lx project, co-financed by the Environmental Fund, is creating seven parklets in three Lisbon parishes with the aim of testing their use and receptivity by local people and businesses. The parishes targeted are Campolide (R. General Taborda, Av. José Malhoa and Av. Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro), Arroios (Mercado de Arroios) and Beato (R. da Manutenção). Based on this experience, sparqs, together with its partners, will evaluate the possibility of scaling up the initiative to other locations, contributing to the city’s sustainability objectives and transforming the streets into places where people want to be.
