Marchas Populares Lisboa, Junho 2024
The “Avenida da Liberdade” is one of the main street in Lisbon built in the 19th century, at the time of the Grand Boulevards in the european cities. Over the years, this avenue has become a centre for parades, festivities and demonstrations.
The popular parades of Lisbon are a contest between the several parish councils of the city and started in 1932, and are still happening every year. Since 1952, the liberty avenue close for the cars and open for the pedestrian, every year around the same time, in June.
