Sustainable Campuses and Cities

Participation in the PT&ND Summerschool (Delft, Netherlands and Covilhã, Portugal)

During two weeks, in the last July, our lead researcher Rita Ochoa participated in the Portugal & Netherlands Summerschool on Sustainable Campuses and Cities. This initiative resulted from of a partnership between University of Beira Interior and TU Delft University, and was financially supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Portugal. It was part of the Embassy’s public diplomacy agenda to reinforce both countries’ commitment to sustainable transition and to sharing best practices, in this case, to promote sustainable campuses.

It involved 16 students and several teachers from both institutions. The first week, in Delft, focused on the TU Delft campus, the second week took place in Covilhã, dealing with the local challenges over there. Both cases included opportunities to test some of the premises of the Intermittent City project, namely the implementing of temporary uses in vacant buildings and spaces. The summerschool included lectures, collaborative design workshops, excursions and presentations to local stakeholders.
